What is the difference between a charity place and a ballot place?

A charity place is a place issued by Macmillan Cancer Support and a ballot place is allocated by London Marathon Events.

When will I find out about my charity place application?

We are currently working to letting all supporter know by the first week of July at the latest. 

What is a charity place token?

This is a short online process you need to complete to confirm your charity place and personal details with Virgin Money London Marathon. This must be completed by the deadline given.

How long will it take for my fundraising pack/running top to arrive?

Your digital fundraising pack will arrive shortly after signing up. Supporter's physical packs with running top will start to be sent out in Spring 2021.

How long are charity place applications open for?

We are currently working towards late Spring 2021. This depends on how successful our ongoing application process is.

When will I receive my charity token to complete?

We will begin this process in March 2021 and must be completed in order for you to take part.

Can I cancel my place?

Please contact londonmarathon@macmillan.org.uk and our team can help you with the next steps.

When will I find out if I'm successful in the public ballot?

The results of the public ballot were announced Monday 8 February by Virgin Money London Marathon. 

Can I get a refund on my registration fee if I cancel?

Unfortunately not. The registration fee is passed onto the event organiser and is non-refundable under all circumstances.

Can I defer my charity place?

If you are unable to take part in the marathon, please contact the team and we can discuss your next steps.

What is the charity place fundraising pledge?

£2,620. We are asking everyone to raise a minimum of £100 per mile. Our runners are always surprised at how achievable this is and the average raised is over £3,500.

How long will it take for my fundraising pack/running top to arrive?

I was successful in public ballot - Do I have a minimum fundraising target?

For supporters successful in the ballot, we simply ask that you raise what you can.

When do I have to reach my £2620 fundraising pledge?

As soon as possible so you focus on your training! On a more serious note, you have until two months after the big day.

I need more sponsorship forms, where can I get some?

 You can find a printable version on the fundraising section.

Will there be any training days for Macmillan runners?

Yes, we'll announce further details about them in the future.

Is there a training plan for me?

Yes, we have training plans for all abilities.

I think I might have an injury, help!

When is the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon?

 Sunday 3 October 2021.

What is the Virgin Money London Marathon Running Show? 

You'll visit the running show to collect your race pack and soak up the inspiring atmosphere of the greatest running event on the planet.

There are loads of great brands from the world of running to explore. This includes the headline Virgin Money London Marathon Superstore, offering the current range of New Balance souvenir and technical clothing.

What is the charity place fundraising pledge?

£2,620. We are asking everyone to raise a minimum of £100 per mile. Our runners are always surprised at how achievable this is and the average raised is over £3,500.

What is 'Meet The Experts'?

It is a day to meet our expert panel, where runners will get the latest training and nutrition advice in a mixture of talks and workshops. A date for 2021 is to be announced. 

How do I collect my race pack?

All runners must collect their race pack from The Virgin Money London Marathon Running Show in the days leading up to the event.

Does Macmillan have a post-race reception?

Yes, we do! We'll be announcing our venue closer to the time.

Will Macmillan have cheer points on the course?

Yes! We will have 10 cheer points around the course and will tell you where closer to the time.

What is the 2021 Virtual Virgin Money Marathon?

It's a virtual marathon that takes place alongside the Virgin Money London Marathon. Runners from all over the world join in and take part in running the marathon in their own way. 

When does the virtual 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon take place?

Between 00:00:00 and 23:59:59 (BST) on Sunday 3 October 2021. Only runs that take place during this period will be officially accepted.

How do I sign up?

What is the charity place fundraising pledge?

£262. We are asking everyone to raise a minimum of £10 per mile. Our runners are always surprised at how achievable this is and the average raised is over £300 in the 2020 virtual event..

Do I get a running top?

We'll be sending out our limited edition Macmillan x New Balance top to everyone who raises £262. You'll have the choice of a t-shirt or vest.

I have my own place in the 2021 Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon, what next?

Upgrade your place and join Team Macmillan. We'll soon have out sign up form so keep your eyes peeled. 

Will I get a finisher's medal and T-shirt for taking part?

Yes, these items will be posted to all finishers after the event.

Can I get a refund on my registration fee if I cancel?

When will I receive my virtual charity token to complete?

This is currently TBC. We anticipate this will be emailed to you in Spring 2021 and must be completed in order for you to take part.

Can I do the 2021 Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon on a treadmill?

You must not use a treadmill or any other stationary running machine and/or equipment to take part in the virtual 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon. All participants must complete the 26.2 miles outside.

Can I defer my charity place?

If you are unable to take part in the marathon, please contact the team and we can discuss your next steps.
