I currently work for Macmillan Cancer Support as an Events Coordinator in the Strategic Communications and Engagement team.
I have been at Macmillan for just over a year, though I did spend a lot of that time on furlough.
I came to work for Macmillan because I wanted to do something that changed lives. I am passionate about the way Macmillan had guided a number of my friends and family through their cancer diagnoses. They all said how they would have felt lost without having a friend like Macmillan, to be with them during their diagnoses.
Another reason I am really keen to run this year is that I lost a family member to cancer during COVID-19. I want to raise money and ensure Macmillan is at the forefront of people’s minds during this pandemic. I also want to ensure the Forgotten C campaign is promoted through the posts I will share on Instagram and Facebook around the build-up to the marathon.
I signed up for my first marathon because my housemate laughed at me when I said ‘I want to do a marathon one day,’ so I was like ‘watch!’. This year will be my fifth London Marathon, and the second time I am running for Macmillan.
This time I am hoping to not only shave my personal best by 10% but to raise awareness about Macmillan. I plan to challenge myself further by vlogging my run via Instagram (@Manojie). I am hoping to generate more donations by intertwining my Team Macmillan marathon experience with plenty of humour.
